H. E. WILDER, Author and Journalist, was born in the village of Ulmi, which is situated at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, Roumania, on May 1st, 1881. He was educated at the cheder and public schools of Craiova, and at the High Commercial State School of Bucharest from which he graduated in 1901. During his student days at Bucharest, Mr. Wilder took an active part in literary Jewish circles and assisted in the creation of various young Zionist societies. He came to Canada in June, 1903, and settled in the City of Winnipeg, where he has since resided. On his arrival in Canada, he secured a position in the Foreign Exchange Department of a banking institution, as he had a good commercial training and was familiar with six European languages. He resigned from this position in 1911, when he became engaged in mercantile enterprises. In 1915, Mr. Wilder became the owner of the Israelite Press, Limited. In 1919, he was elected President of the Employing Printers' Association of Winnipeg, and when the United Typothetae of America organized a branch in Winnipeg, in 1920, he became its first President. Mr. Wilder has always taken a keen and leading part in the communal work and philanthropic undertakings of Winnipeg. He has been a member of the Board of Directors, and of the Executive of the local Y.M.H.A., Talmud Torah, The Jewish Orphanage, United Hebrew Relief, B'nai B'rith, The War Relief Society, The Immigrant Aid Society, The Canadian Jewish Congress, and of the Zionist Organization. He has held office in the Zionist Organization continuously since 1912. In 1918, he was Chairman of the Executive of the Winnipeg Zionist Council, and in 1920, its President. In 1922, he was elected Vice-President of the Zionist Organization of Canada, and was re-elected in 1924. During the War, Mr. Wilder was in charge of the Foreign Publicity Department of the Dominion Victory Loan Campaigns. He was married in 1908, to Sylvia, daughter of Michael Grunberg of Bucharest, and has two sons, Edmund and Emanuel, and two daughters, the Misses Miriam and Semah Wilder. MRS. H. E. Wilder was born in Roumania, on February 2nd, 1888, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Grunberg. She received her education at the public schools and College of Bucharest, Roumania, from which she graduated in 1904. She was married on June 14th, 1908, to Mr. H. E. Wilder, and has two sons, Edmund and Emanuel, and two daughters, Miriam and Semah Wilder. Mrs. Wilder has always taken the keenest interest in all communal and philanthropic undertakings, and for years has been one of the most active Social Service workers in her community. She is the organizer and was the first President of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Independent Order B'nai B'rith, Winnipeg Lodge, and is also the organizer of the Jewish Women Tribute. Mrs. Wilder has always been a very entusiastic Zionist, and she is a most zealous worker for this cause. At the present time she is a Vice-President of the Dominion Hadassah Organization of Canada, and is President of the Hadassah Chapter of Winnipeg. Mrs. Wilder is a member of the Women's Canadian Club.
