Molly and Manny

Manny's father Joseph Enzer and sister Jeanette Enzer are both featured in "The Jew in Canada, A Complete Record of Canadian Jewry from the Days of the French Regime to the Present Time", Compiled and Edited by Arthur Daniel Hart, and Published in 1926. Following are the photos and bios of Joseph on page 367, and Jeanette on page 528.

J OSEPH ENZER was born in Bukowina, Austria, on January 9th, 1869, the son of the late Abraham Enzer. He received his education in Austria and came to Canada in 1889. Mr. Enzer first resided in Montreal, but after some twelve years spent there, he moved to Fort William, Ontario, where he opened a general store which he carried on in Fort William for fifteen years. He established a reputation for integrity that did more to help the community than any other cause, and Mr. Enzer has maintained this reputation wherever he has gone. He did invaluable pioneer work in his community, in establishing a good understanding between Jews and non-Jews. For the first five years of his residence there, he was the only Jew in Fort William, and when the Jewish population increased to the extent they were able to organizer a congregation, it was Mr. Enzer who was instrumental in its formation. He took a most active part in the building of the synagogue and in all communal undertakings and endeavors in Fort William. For many years Mr. Enzer devoted much of his time working for the Jewish communities at the head of the Lakes, and he is known as "The Founder of Judaism" in the twin cities. He organized and was the first president of the Fort William Lodge, Independent Order B'nai B'rith, and did mush to advance the interests of his coreligionists in very many ways. He was a member of the Board of Trade of Ft. William. In 1915, Mr. Enzer returned and took up his residence in Montreal, where he entered into the manufacturing of ladies' garments, under the name of Ideal Ladies' Wear Ltd., which business he still conducts. He takes an active interest in all Jewish communal undertakings in Montreal, and is particularly interested in the Zionist Organization. Mr. Enzer was married to Ernestine, daughter of Alter Mandelbaum, and he has two sons, Dr. Norbert and Emanuel, and one daughter, Miss Jeanette Enzer, who has made for herself and enviable reputation as a musician. Mr. Enzer is a member of St. George's Lodge, A.F. & A.M., and of the Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue, Montreal. MISS JEANETTE ENZER, Pianist, daughter of Joseph Enzer, was born in Montreal. She removed to Fort William with her parents, where she was the pianist and leader for the Child Orchestra, the only one in Canada. In 1915, she returned to Montreal and attended McGill University. Miss Enzer has devoted most of her time to the study of music, under the capable tuition of Mr. Alfred Laliberte, and has for some years been giving lessons in piano music. She is Treasurer of the Music and Dramatic Club in Montreal.
